Gzhel is not only a picturesque village which gives the name for the skilful handicraft but a whole pottery land located south-east of Moscow. There are 27 villages united in the so-called "Gzhel bush".
The greatest natural wealth of this region is white clay, which is ideal for pottery of the highest craftsmanship. Have you known that when the art appeared it was multicolored? In the painting, green, yellow, brown tones were dominated. Only later, the masters began to use black cobalt paint, which after firing turns hundreds of amazingly blue tones.
